Pascoe Vale will look to bounce back from a small hiccup when it returns home to tackle Oakleigh Cannons at CB Smith Reserve on Friday night.
A spectacular month has seen the Cannons vault to fourth place in the NPL standings in as many weeks.
Despite it having accumulated 15 more points than Friday’s opposition, Oakleigh will be unable to underestimate a Paco team, raring to bounce back after its 2-0 loss away to top-of-the-table Bentleigh last week.
It took a spectacular Wayne Wallace goal on the stroke of half time and a late Chris Lucas finish to undo Vitale Ferrante’s team, which gave as good as it got against its highly fancied opponents.
The defeat wasn’t enough to dislodge Paco from seventh spot, ensuring it sits on top of Melbourne Knights prior to Friday’s clash.
In-form Oakleigh Cannons will pose as Paco’s third formidable challenge in as many weeks.
The Con Tangalakis and Peter Tsolakis coached outfit has exceeded even its own expectations after many had tipped it to be fighting for survival in the bottom third of the standings.
A late Luka Prelevic goal secured a point for Pascoe Vale when the sides last went head-to-head at Jack Edwards Reserve.
The Cannons have since made a dash into the top four, overtaking Hume City and Green Gully on its path.
Melbourne Knights, South Melbourne, Melbourne Victory and Avondale have all fallen victims to the Cannons juggernaut, which are still mathematically in the hunt to finish as league runners-up.
Dusan Bosnjak remains one of Oakleigh’s biggest threats, which Paco will need to monitor closely.
Three points for Paco could keep it in touch with the top six, if results go its way.
Kick off at CB Smith Reserve is at 20:15 on Friday night.
